Writer Wednesday: Interview with Writer Ashley Nixon
Welcome to my Writer Wednesday feature! Each week, I either showcase a fellow writer who has inspired/encouraged me in some way, or I interview one. Writers could be at any stage of their writing career.
Some of you may remember that this feature first began as the Crusader Quiz series, when I interviewed fellow participants of the 2nd Writers’ Platform-Building Crusade. Now, as part of Rachael Harrie‘s 4th installment of the event, now called the Writers’ Platform-Building Campaign, I thought I’d revisit the series’ roots by interviewing more fellow Campaigners.
This week’s fellow Campaigner is:
Ashley Nixon
Ashley is a bubbly college student set to graduate in May. She dreams of becoming a full-time author. Ashley writes YA Fantasy and loves to read Classics (though she likes all sorts of genres). Her favourite books include The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and Pride and Prejudice.

When did you start writing?
Well, I guess unofficially around the second grade, but officially, in the eighth grade (around thirteen).
What genres do you write?
I write Young Adult Fantasy.
Sum up your current WiP in 10 words or less.
Pirates and elves (pirate-elves, too) trying to destroy a curse.
What’s your ultimate goal as a writer?
To motivate and inspire others to write!
How close are you to achieving this goal?
I think I’ve achieved this goal, actually! Which makes me very happy. I just want this on a larger scale, I suppose.
Any quirky writing habits?
Umm. I’m not sure it’s quirky, but I don’t like writing with spellcheck or grammar check on until I’m in editing stages. I also usually write dialogue first, then go back and fill in the scene.
Best writing snack?
Coffee. Coffee can be a snack.
Kung Fu KAPOW! Question:
Who is your no. 1 book boyfriend? Your ultimate. Fictional. Male?
Haha. I’m gonna say Legolas.

Butt-kicking bookworm. Displaced Malaysian. Writes crime & thrillers. Debut novel ORACLE will be released by J. Taylor Publishing on 30th July 2012.

You had me at Lord of the Rings.
She had me at Legolas.
And you had me at this comment.
lol. I’m obsessed with LotR!! <3
Thanks of having me, J.C.!!
No coffee isn’t a snack. Okay, maybe it is for skinny women who consider a single MM a dessert. You have to add a cinnamon bun to the coffee…then it’s a snack.
I’m inclined to agree with you.
Thank you for dropping by, Elizabeth!
Lol. Coffee is the only think I have while writing!
I love Ashley! And great interview questions, J.C.! It’s nice to meet you.

Pirate-elves?? That’s one of those things that I wish I had thought of myself
Sounds like a cool story.
LOL! I do love elves! And pirates!! I’m so happy it interests you!
Pirate elves, Lord of the Rings and Legolas all in the same interview. This was fantastic. I’d love to know more about these pirate elves.
