Teenage Heartthrob Blogfest

The Teenage Heartthrob Blogfest is jointly organised by Sarah Ahiers, Vic Caswell @ Harinets & Hopes, and Emily White. After being crippled with some mysterious illness, which resulted in a rather bedridden weekend (hence no Six Sentence Sunday yesterday), I haven’t really collected enough news for this week’s Weekly Round-Up, so will be participating in this blogfest instead.

Who were your crushes when you were a teen? Who made your heart flutter, and do they still do it for you today? Here are my top three:

3. David Copperfield

As a teen, I watched all his recorded live shows. Yeah, I realise how cheesy some of his performances are today, yet in those days, it was a combination of those deep-set brown eyes, oft-partially unbuttoned shirt, general air of mystery, and his ability to magick just about anything for  his romantic interest, that got my heart palpitating. While he is no longer on my heartthrob list (he hasn’t aged all that well), it takes nothing away from the fact that he is one talented illusionist.

2. Nick Carter

Isn’t he adorable? The floppy blond locks of this Backstreet Boy did it for me, not to mention the fact that I’ve always dreamed of being serenaded by someone with a good singing voice! Plus, he looks like someone Mom would approve of if you took himhome (can I keep him, Mommy? Please?) Today, though, I prefer brunettes to blonds, and am more attracted by the darker look of his fellow BSB, Howie D.

1. Tom Cruise

Ah, Tom! My old bedroom back home in Malaysia still holds posters and pictures of him. I even had a scrapbook of his mug cut out from magazines and newspapers. Being a shorty anyway, his height doesn’t bother me (though I’m not sure about his Scientologic beliefs). Loved him with a crewcut Mission Impossible, with long hair in The Last Samurai, even as a silver-haired assassin in Collateral. And who can resist him in Interview with a Vampire (despite the dodgy blond wig)?

Lestat

You can bite my neck anytime, Tom! (click for image source)

So what do you think? Yay or nay? For more eye candy, check out more teenage heartthrobs here!

So, who were YOUR teenage heartthrob (s)? :)

  1. Sadly, the only name I can remember is Jeffrey Osborne, because I loved his songs: On the Wings of Love, You Should Be Mine (Woo Woo Song), We’re Going All the Way (which was our high school graduation theme song–telling my age here)

I rarely watched TV and never went to the movies as a teen, so that’s probably why my heartthrobs would have to be singers.

    • J.C. Martin says:

Singers can be great heartthrobs. You can so fall in love with their voices, and imagine them serenading just you! :) It reminds me I’ve missed out one teenage heartthrob from this list: Tommy Page. Don’t even know what he looks like, but I loved his boyish, breathy voice and his sappy love songs! :)

Oh, and I do love “On the Wings of Love”!

  2. Theresa says:

I think I’m the only person on the planet who hasn’t seen Interview with a Vampire. That pic you have of Tom Cruise is hot though!

I was a huge BSB fan but I liked Kevin. For some reason it makes me laugh now.

  3. Sarah Ahiers says:

Man, i hear you about Tom Cruise. Dude is weird as hell, but he is one atractive man.

  4. Cassie Mae says:

I got so much crap a couple weeks ago for having a major Tom Cruise obsession. Minority Report is what did me in. Seriously, I don’t care if he’s insane… So am I, lol

  5. Huh, I will never understand the Tom Cruise thing. I like his movies but I’ve never found him all that attractive.

  6. I agree with Sarah, Tom Cruise would be my top pick here, even though he is sort of creepy with the Scientology bit. He is good at what he does, and sexy in the films, when he’s jumping out of skyscrapers etc! I’m #5 in the hop, and I got up late so I’m trying to play catch up too. I chose real people from my past! Read to believe.

  7. So those posters of Cruise are still there? If your old room is now a guest room then that must surprise guests when they open the closet.

  8. Vic Caswell says:

heeheehee! i wasn’t ever into tom, even when rosie was pushing him on america like an insistent crack dealer, but a lot of my friends were.
and the david copperfield thing made my day! AWESOME!
    thanks for playing along!

  9. Quite the range here :) Tom doesn’t make it on my list, but every time I see him in a movie I am mesmerized. Can’t deny his good looks, even super pasty :)

  10. Joshua says:

Not sure about the first two, but Tom Cruise is a good choice, despite what people think and say about him.

  11. Budd says:

I liked Alicia Silverstone for a while. before her was Jennifer Grey. I also had some weird obsession with Faruzia Balk after the craft.

  12. Danielle B. says:

I’ve always had a secret crush on him tho I can’t get past the weirdness.

  13. Emily White says:

Tom Cruise IS hot, but not hot enough to ignore the crazy. However, vampires will forever be sexy (even the bad ones).

  14. Adrianne says:

I just watched “The Last Samurai” and just had to shake my head. Tom Cruise is easy on the eyes but hard on the psyche. :)

  15. DL Hammons says:

Okay…I’ll give you Tom, but the other two never impressed me as hearthrobs. Everyone has their own itch though! :)

  16. sue says:

Hope you’re better J.C. I did miss you yesterday. Heart throb – my dear I am so much older than your readers that my teen idols are old men now. And there are so many blog fests on the net (I am writing for one now) that one could spend 24/7 just on blog fests :D

    • J.C. Martin says:

That is very true! Sooo many blogfests, so little time! I’ll be back next week with another SSS offering, Sue! :)

  17. Trisha says:

Not a fan of Nick Carter, I think his hair was too peroxided. :) Then again I wasn’t into BSB. I like Tom Cruise, but not necessarily nowadays. Freaky religious people freak me out!

  18. Angela Brown says:

I’m with you regarding Tom Cruise. Not so much on your other two choices. I have a life-long crush on Johnny Depp. I barely remember episodes of 21 Jumpstreet yet Johnny is like embedded in my head under the Crush column.

    • J.C. Martin says:

Johnny Depp never did it for me. While we’re on the subject of heartthrobs, Brad Pitt only really started catching my eye later on, like in Troy. ;)

  19. I’d forgotten that once upon a time Tom was actually kinda cute :-)

  20. We have different taste. My first was Rick Springfield. My next was John Taylor. I thought Indiana Jones was pretty hot. Robe Lowe too.

  21. Barb says:

Actor Matt Dillon and John Taylor of Duran Duran… :-) That was the 1980s… sooo missed! ;-)

  22. David Copperfield–YES!!!

    Tom Cruise as Lestat–double YES!!!

I also like Antonio Banderas, and Brad Pitt a la Legends of the Fall.
