About Me
Official Bio
J.C. Martin is a butt-kicking bookworm: when she isn’t reading or writing, she teaches martial arts and self-defence to adults and children.
After working in pharmaceutical research, then in education as a schoolteacher, she decided to put the following to good use: one, her 2nd degree black belt in Wing Chun kung fu; and two, her overwhelming need to write dark mysteries and gripping thrillers with a psychological slant.
Her short stories have won various prizes and have been published in several anthologies. Her debut novel, Oracle, will be released by J. Taylor Publishing on July 30th, 2012.
Born and raised in Malaysia, J.C. now lives in south London with her husband and three dogs.

The Naming of this Blog: the Madness Behind the Method
So what gives with the blog name? Apart from the obvious fact that I’m a writer, I also fund my obsessive-compulsive storytelling by teaching martial arts, which I thoroughly enjoy!
But Fighter Writer? Keeping in mind the saying “the pen is mightier than the sword”, isn’t the name a bit of an oxymoron? Destructive versus creative? Well, that’s me in a nutshell; I embody the word ‘oxymoron’ – butt-kicking bookworm, girly tomboy, cowardly warrior. My favourite colours are pink and the black-and-blue shades of bruises; I love a good fight (especially if I win it), but I can’t do it without my trusty pink gumshield and pink gloves; I squeal at the sight of cute fluffy animals, and drool over masterpieces of kung fu weaponry; I don’t mind taking a hit, but I’m scared to death of needles and lizards.
So with such an – ahem, interesting – background, what can you expect to find on my blog? Musings of a writer, updates of my work, sneak previews, calls for constructive criticism, sharing of good writing practice … pretty much what you would expect from a writer’s blog. In addition, I will also include reviews of books I have read, insights into the world of martial arts, personal entries, comments on current issues … in other words, pretty much anything and everything.
I hope you’ll find the rantings in this blog inspiring, useful, or at the very least, worth wasting a couple of minutes on (when you should really be working!). I would love to hear back from readers, so please feel free to leave a comment, or get in touch via e-mail (address below)!

I loved your comment on Nathan Bransford's blog about balancing writing and life. I also am quitting my (soul-draining/toxic) job and going PT.
Love the blog name and concept
Hiya! Thanks for much for the offer to donate an ebook! That would be fantastic. Can you email me to let me know how many copies you'd like to donate – and the title of the book? Sorry to do this by blog comment, but I can't seem to locate your email…
Hope you're having a great weekend!

Great looking site
I rarely get to meet other authors who are in England. All my other writer friends are from the rest of the world.
Good luck with the blog tour!

Hi! Thanks for stopping by! It’s flattering that you would follow my blog, considering the fact that I’m a pretty much amateur writer/blogger…And I’m absolutely estatic to find a fellow Malaysian here!!! This is the first time I met one! So hi! And nice to meet you! =)
My pleasure, RaeAnn. And apa khabar to a fellow Malaysian! I’ve met a few others you may like to follow:
John Ling now lives in New Zealand, and has released a thriller, THE BLASHPHEMER, which is really well received so far. His blog is http://johnlingblog.wordpress.com
Anna Tan is a Penang-based writer: http://natzthinks.blogspot.com/
Chris Kouju is a Malaysian writer in Scotland: http://lifewithoutfear.wordpress.com/

Knabar baik! And thanks! Now I don’t feel so much like an outsider…and your writing and blog are way cool!
Hi J.C. What a beautiful picture of you. I had to write because I am the proud mother of two daughters who have their black belt in Karate. I love how the sport made them strong, confident, and it gave them a no-nonsense approach to life. I look forward to reading more of your posts.
